Drunk driving incident sends 3 to hospital

It does not matter what time of day or night or whether a person is walking or driving, a roadway can be a site of extreme peril when alcohol consumption is a factor. Accidents caused by drunk driving may cause minimal damage to other vehicles or people, or they may be catastrophic with fatalities and/or severe injuries. Police in a Georgia town have arrested a 59-year-old man for drunk driving after his vehicle struck three pedestrians.

Reports state the 2 p.m. incident began with the man turned his Jaguar onto a residential street, ran off the road and then hit one of the houses. He backed away from the scene, continued along the street and made another turn when he hit two pedestrians walking in the crosswalk. He continued a short distance and hit an SUV parked on the street. The force of that collision shoved the SUV into a third pedestrian.

The three injured persons were taken to a local medical facility for treatment and, although their injuries were not considered life-threatening, there has been no update on the status of each. The driver stayed at the scene but police suspected he had been drinking and charged him with several infractions, one being driving under the influence. The investigation of the accident is ongoing.

There was no life lost in this particular drunk driving case, but they do not all end the same. The three people who were hit by this driver will have at least one medical bill each. With medical costs being what they are and hospitals contracting some staff positions, the totals of the bills can become overwhelming in the blink of an eye. Should further care be needed down the road, that debt will be a burden from which it will be difficult to overcome. A Georgia attorney can pursue a personal injury lawsuit where a financial award would help give a client relief from the mountain of medical debt.
