Alleged drunk driving cause for woman's arrest

Georgia police see numerous bizarre behavior patterns when making traffic stops. In their efforts to keep the roads safe for all drivers, they find many stops are made because of drunk driving. A state trooper recently responded to a drunk driving incident and made an arrest.

Emergency personnel were already on the scene when the officer arrived to find the driver of a vehicle asleep behind the wheel. The car was stopped at a traffic light around midnight and there were, in addition to the driver, three older, handicapped passengers inside. When the driver awoke and got out of her vehicle, police saw she had soiled herself and noticed there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from inside the car. Police reports claim the driver seemed disoriented. She could not maintain her balance and she admitted she had been drinking, but would not take a field sobriety test.

Some investigation revealed the driver had been employed with a home health agency, and she was taking passengers to an undisclosed location. Police had them transported to a local hospital until family could be notified and they could be picked up. The 40-year-old driver faces several charges, driving under the influence and impeding traffic flow being among them.

In this instance, it appears no one was injured from this woman's alleged alcohol consumption; however, that is not always the case. Drunk driving incidents like this one have often led to life-threatening injury or even death. Along with possible jail time and fines, those who commit these legal infractions are subject to a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. For the families who suffer unfathomable loss or overwhelming financial hardships due to the actions of a drunk driver, a Georgia attorney is there to explain their options on pursuing a financial judgement.
