Drunk driving allegedly cause of young girl's death

To lose a loved one is hard on family and friends. To suddenly lose that family member because someone else decided to drink and drive is heartbreaking. Despite all the efforts to stamp out drunk driving, it remains a critical problem. One family will face the holidays without the exuberance of an 11-year-old girl who was recently killed as a result of drunk driving, according to Georgia police.

Police say a 27-year-old woman who had been drinking collided with another car. Inside that car were the young girl, her mother and her sister. The little girl was thrown from the car. She was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Georgia after emergency personnel reached the scene. The next morning, she succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, the other driver fled the scene in her car and crashed into another vehicle not far away. Police were able to apprehend her and charged her with homicide by vehicle and DUI, among other violations. Apparently, this was not the woman's first brush with the law.

Many Georgia families who have found themselves facing the consequences of drunk driving collisions have pursued wrongful death litigation against the party or parties deemed responsible for their losses. Because there are time constraints and other procedural considerations in filing this type of lawsuit, it's important to act as soon as the family feels ready to make a decision. An attorney can provide more details to help clients better understand the legal process and what evidence will be necessary to successfully navigate the civil justice system.
