Charges pending after student injured in car accident

Vehicular crashes are attributed to numerous causes. Among some explanations given over the years as to why a car accident happens are because a driver consumed a substance that alters reflexes and perception, was just plain negligent or had some type of medical episode that caused him or her to lose control of the wheel. A student at a Georgia university was seriously injured in a car accident involving four vehicles.

The 18-year-old driver of a Chevrolet compact car was traveling near the school when he sideswiped two vehicles parked in designated places along the side of the road. The student was standing near the rear of a third parked vehicle and was injured when the Chevrolet crashed into that vehicle. Although she was treated by local first responders, she was shortly airlifted to a medical facility 30 miles away. A status on her condition was not given in a report on the incident.

The teenage driver told a state trooper at the scene he had blacked out before hitting the three vehicles and was in pain, as well. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Although police do not believe the use of alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash, charges are apparently pending.

Should an investigation show the car accident could have been prevented by the driver, the girl would have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit. The dollar amount on which a settlement or monetary judgment is based can be calculated by giving value to pain and suffering, actual amounts of property damage, medical bills, lost wages and other documented financial losses. Anyone in Georgia who has been injured as a result of another person's negligence can consult with an experienced attorney about the potential options for legal recourse.
