Car accident takes life of college student

The careless behavior of some drivers can end up costing them and others a lifetime of suffering. By not keeping the focus on the road ahead of them, some drivers risk causing a car accident with a death or causing one with critical injuries to themselves and others. A student attending the University of Georgia was killed in a car accident when another driver was negligent in following the rules of the road set for the safety of all.

The 51-year-old driver of a rented sedan was in the northbound lane when he came to a curve in the road. Police say he was driving too fast for conditions when he left his lane of traffic and crossed over the raised median to oncoming traffic headed south. He collided head-on with the car driven by the 20-year-old college junior. The student was killed and a passenger in his car was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A report on the incident stated the man was able to exit his vehicle and stopped another driver to ask for a ride to the nearest gas station. That driver alerted police to the man's location, where he was found and charged with vehicular homicide and hit and run. Police found he was driving with a suspended license and he faces that charge, as well. He was put in the county jail and no bail had been set at the time of the report.

The student's family will have a number of decisions to make, even as they grieve. One will be whether to seek financial accountability from the older man for his actions by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against him. After losing a loved one in a car accident, many Georgians take that step by consulting an attorney who has extensive experience in handling personal injury lawsuits.
