Hit-and-run car accident leaves Georgia man injured

Driving on any Georgia road can be dangerous if other drivers are not cautious and alert. However, if a car accident should occur, one might expect the other driver to stop and render aid or at least check on the condition of anyone in the other vehicle. A recent collision in Georgia demonstrates that accident victims cannot always rely on this.

Sometime before 4 a.m. on a recent Sunday, a man driving north in the right lane on Highway 316 noticed another vehicle approaching from behind. It was still dark, and the other vehicle's headlights shone in the driver's rear-view mirror. He expected the other vehicle to pass and was shocked when it allegedly struck his own vehicle, sending it spinning off the road. The man reported that he felt his vehicle flipping numerous times before he lost consciousness.

The other driver apparently continued without stopping. The injured man regained consciousness and tried to crawl out of his vehicle when a passerby spotted the wreckage and stopped to help. Medical reports say the victim suffered serious injuries, which will require numerous surgeries. His recovery is likely to be slow and painful.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle turned himself in to police about 36 hours after the accident. He is facing charges of felony hit-and-run, failing to report a car accident involving injuries, felony serious injury by vehicle and numerous other traffic violations. Reckless and negligent actions behind the wheel can leave others suffering physically, emotionally and financially. Those injured in Georgia have the right to pursue justice through the civil courts, and the assistance of an attorney may help them meet their goals.
