Head-on car accident claims one life

A woman is dead following a head-on crash late on Aug. 13, according to the Department of Transportation. The Georgia State Patrol investigated the car accident that claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman. Two other people were taken to the hospital with injuries described as non life-threatening. Given the details of the case it appears charges will not be filed against the injured driver, but the investigation is still underway as of this report.

According to the accident report, the woman was headed southbound on Georgia 247 when, for reasons unknown, her vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. This caused her vehicle to strike a northbound vehicle head-on, with enough force to kill her. She was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical authorities.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle, who have not been identified publicly by police, were taken to a local hospital. It is unclear whether they are still in medical care or have been released, but given their injuries were not considered severe, it seems likely they would have been discharged by now. Police are still investigating why the other driver crossed the center line, but they have yet to rule out any potential contributing factors.

If it is determined the car accident was caused by the deceased driver's recklessness or negligence, or if she is found to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, the injured parties could make use of that evidence to file personal injury lawsuits against her estate. These suits are considered civil in nature and are handled by the Georgia civil justice system. A successful lawsuit may result in the court awarding damages to one or both injured parties.
