Collision between semi-trucks kills 1, injures 1 in Georgia

Local authorities reported that an accident involving two semi-trucks in McDuffie County left one driver dead and the other with minor injuries on August 11. The former driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of Wire Road and Highway 17. Authorities said a 28-year-old man driving a semi-truck westbound on Wire Road failed to stop at the sign located at the intersection and struck another semi-truck driven by the victim, a 40-year-old man.

The news source did not mention any speculation from authorities as to why the surviving truck driver ran the red light. However, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said that charges could be filed against him pending the findings of an investigation by it Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.

When a family suffers the loss of a loved one in a truck accident, it may be possible for them to win compensation for the financial harm caused to them via a wrongful death lawsuit. Damages awarded from such litigation are usually tied to expenses like funeral costs and medical bills incurred before the victim's passing. The loss of a decedent's income can also be accounted for by that compensation.

After a truck accident, a truck driver may be found guilty of negligence in a subsequent civil suit if his or her trucking log shows that he or she may have been fatigued from driving more than the hours allowed by federal trucking regulations. Other examples negligent behavior include lacking the proper license to operate a tractor-trailer, speeding or knowingly operating a truck with defective equipment.
